Katherine Wallace Director The foundational mission of the United World College movement is to use education as 'a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future.' There is no better way to educate young people than to give them the opportunity to experience a dynamic forum where they can learn so much about the global issues concerning the world right now. MUN gives students a platform to develop an in-depth understanding of the complexities of international relations and diplomacy, and to understand more about the work of the United Nations. It encourages young people to be politically and socially aware, responsive and actively involved as interconnected global citizens, which is vitally important in today's world. |
Timothy Pettine Director As the newest member of the Model United Nations (MUN) programme at UWCSEA, I am excited to support the incredible efforts of the delegates as they utilize the MUN experience to hone the skills and aptitudes fostering leadership and global understanding. Through acts of diplomacy, consensus building, and perspective-taking, Model United Nations programmes contribute to the next generation of peacemakers The Executive Committee has worked diligently in preparation for hosting this year's conference and welcomes schools from all over the region to what will surely be a rewarding opportunity where both friendships and memories are to be made. |
Paul Sharry Director MUN can be an enormously transformative experience for students. I have been involved in MUN in three different schools over 15 years. It is a privilege to see students tackle complex issues, form alliances to win support for their resolutions and then make confident, effective speeches. One student described MUN to me as being something that was 'completely outside her comfort zone', but ultimately rewarding. From Dublin to Doha, Athens and elsewhere, I am always impressed by the maturity of student delegates and the wonderfully supportive and encouraging teams. |
